So they just want to sing over your track?
Personally I'd just take the complement but it does seem a little unusual.
But i'm not down with the kids...

Yeah.
I know people sell (mostly shite) beats nowadays but this is a full original song recorded by professional musicians.

It's not that "weird" or unusual these days. Particularly if, as you say, it is a high quality production. A non exclusive license (from you) to use the recording will likely cost the artist less than creating their own version from scratch. Note, there are 2 copyrights at play here.
1. Mechanical royalties for the copies of the song.
2. A License to use the Backing track recording.

Thanks Phil. I've directed her to my collection agency for a license and given her permission contingent on my producing. Let's see what happens.
Thanks all.

If it was me, I would probably do a buy-out deal and have my name in the credits?

Thanks Mart. She's happy to license and have me produce. Excited to see what sort of a musical baby we make.

I would say yes to this BUT I would still want the lions share of ownership and rights to the song and a hard copy of a contract (signed whilst being witnessed by a third party), otherwise I would pass. That's just my opinion.
