Postby heavenorlasvegas » Thu Feb 25, 2021 6:06 pm

has anyone ever replaced the stock tube in one of these units from the late 80s/early 90s? is it a relatively simple process?

how did it sound?

thanks

I tried this with another mic. It made no discernable difference. I think it's one for the type of person who believes in magic golden power cables.

haha! i hear ya there...

thing is though, that my sgx 2000 is almost 30 years old and it sounds as though the sonics have deteriorated even in the short time i've had it.

i'm wondering if the original tube is still in place and if it could benefit from having a new one put in.

The tube is very likely to be fine. More likely that a capacitor is failing, or dirt on the diaphragm might cause an issue.

Instead of ad-hoc swapping components, it would be much better to do some measuring.
