send to mono sub - level

Postby trbmusic » Fri Aug 31, 2018 1:05 pm

I am looking for advice for a send stereo signal to mono sub.

Should I take care and send -6dB to the mono aux?

My configuration is CD L--> stereo L-->Mtx1; CD R--> stereo R -->Mtx2;

CD LR --> Aux 12sub-->Mtx3

Thanks for any feedback.

What's the rest of the system?

I'm really not a fan of feeding subwoofers with auxes... It's largely pointless and can cause problems and confusion.

If your sub is an active one, of the 'stereo in, stereo out with built-in crossover and mono-summing' variety, just connect it in line with your speakers and adjust the level of the sub itself.

I recently watched with interest a debate on this subject on a facebook group I'm a member on.

Basically, if you have the sub on an aux it will change the acoustic crossover point. While it may seem like a good idea to be able to add more sub, you'll end up having to adjust the EQ for a boost in frequencies around the crossover point - probably around 70-120Hz mark.

This may not be a deal breaker, but it's something to be aware of.
