1010music have announced the blackbox 2, a new version of their compact standalone sampler designed for DAWless production, live performance and portable music creation.
Building on the workflow of the original blackbox, the new model introduces a higher-resolution four-inch touchscreen, increased processing power and expanded sequencing and performance tools. The instrument supports looping, slicing, one-shot playback, multisampling and external MIDI instruments across four flexible tracks.
Users can record, edit and sequence directly from the touchscreen interface using piano roll, step sequencing and probability-based tools, while the new Launch, Scene and Song modes bring clip launching and live arrangement features inspired by larger grooveboxes and performance systems.
The blackbox 2 also adds live looping, DJ-style performance effects and resampling functions, alongside onboard sound design tools including filters, envelopes, modulation and a modulation matrix. One-shot and loop instruments now support up to 16 samples per patch, while automated multisampling tools make it possible to create playable instruments directly from external synths.
The unit includes USB-C host and device connectivity for multichannel audio streaming and MIDI integration, alongside stereo inputs, three stereo outputs, analogue clock I/O and microSD storage. An internal battery offers up to three hours of portable operation.
According to 1010music, the blackbox 2 delivers twice the processing power of the original model while retaining the compact form factor that made the first version popular with portable and live electronic musicians.
