API reveal eight-bus 2448 console at AES Convention

New desk bridges the gap between the 1608 and AXS consoles

It wouldn't be an AES Show without some shiny new mixers to drool over, and this year API delivered the goods, with not one but two brand-new high-end analogue consoles.

The larger of the two, the 2448 is an eight-bus (plus main stereo bus), eight aux mixer in the classic in-line mode. Available in 24-, 32- and 40-channel frame sizes, the dual-input channels each have a mic/line input and a monitor return. The inclusion of four stereo line returns, and the ability to use both channel inputs simultaneously, means that even the 24-channel version gives you a whopping 56 inputs at mixdown.

As a cost option, the 2448 can be fitted with API's own Final Touch automation system, which provides automated mute and insert switching, unlimited fader groups and restore points, DAW control and, of course, moving faders.

This is a serious-looking console and, as such, will come with a serious price tag. When we quizzed API about it, we were told pricing would start in the “upper 70s...” We don't think they mean magic beans!
