Arturia release Memory V

Recreates Moog’s iconic Memorymoog polysynth

Arturia Memory V Moog Memorymoog analogue synthesizer software emulation

Arturia’s vast software instrument range offers a combination of new and old, with innovative modern soft synths joined by meticulous recreations of old classics. Their latest release falls into the latter category, delivering an emulation of Moog’s iconic Memorymoog polysynth.

Originally launched in 1982 and manufactured until 1985, the Memorymoog was the final polyphonic instrument produced by Moog Music before they declared bankruptcy. Today, it’s widely considered to be one of the rarest and most sought-after analogue polysynths, with extreme maintenance requirements, instabilities and high restoration costs making it out of reach for the vast majority of players and enthusiasts.

Thankfully, Arturia have taken the time to bring the classic to life in software form, using circuit-level modelling to faithfully recreate its distinctive sound character. Memory V emulates the behaviour of the three VCO-per-voice architecture and iconic ladder filters, and promises to deliver the coveted 1980s sound without any of the tuning issues, instability or limitations of the hardware version.

Arturia have also taken the opportunity to enhance the instrument with some additional, modern features, including:

  • Modelled Triple VCOs, Mixer and VCAs with its non-linearities, boosted by a newly added Drive control.
  • Multi-Arpeggiator.
  • Arturia Advanced Features: Drag-and-drop modulation system and effects section.
  • MPE, Arturia Controller Integration, NKS and MTS-ESP.
  • Sync VCO 1 to 3 for gnarly sounds.
  • Enhanced modulation options with an added panning control.
  • Six voices, expandable to 12.

Key Features

  • Authentic Sound Engine: Meticulous modelling of the Memorymoog's three voltage-controlled oscillators per voice, its powerful and famous ladder filters and its unique analogue grit and distortion.
  • Enhanced Functionality: Going beyond a direct emulation, Memory V includes a powerful Advanced panel that offers complete control over modulation sources and destinations, a comprehensive effects section and advanced arpeggiation capabilities.
  • Intuitive Interface: A visually faithful and ergonomically designed user interface that mirrors the hardware layout, making it appealing for vintage enthusiasts while still being clear and accessible enough for new users.
  • Integration: Seamless integration with modern DAWs, Arturia and third-party MIDI controllers — including support for NKS, MPE and MTS-ESP for microtonal usage.

Memory V is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or above, and Macs running macOS 11 and higher. VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.
