Designed specifically for bass-heavy electronic music, the latest plug-in from Arturia aims to offer an all-in-one solution for crafting hard-hitting sub-basses.
Pure Sub’s name makes its intentions clear, and the new instrument comes packed with tools that have been designed specifically for crafting modern bass sounds. Patches are divided into three elements: Sub, Harmonics and Texture, each of which are equipped with their own set of dedicated parameters. The approach makes it possible to control the fundamental independently of harmonics, ensuring that any work carried out further up the frequency range doesn’t negatively impact the all-important underlying sub-bass.
The plug-in can be used to craft simple, classic sounds such as 808-style hits and Reese basses, but thanks to an extensive collection of sound design tools, it can be pushed into much more extreme territory, too. Noise sources, filters and a comprehensive set of built-in effects make it possible to carry out subtle enhancements or mangle sounds beyond recognition, and there’s an array of onboard modulation tools that include three envelopes and six customisable modulators — there’s also full support for MPE controllers.
Compatibility
Pure Sub is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or above, and Macs running macOS 11 and higher. VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.
