Buchla debut Ziggy synthesizer

Modular-inspired sound generation with digital control

Buchla Ziggy

Buchla have introduced Ziggy, a new compact synthesizer built around the company’s complex oscillator architecture, combining analogue sound generation with digital control in a self-contained, patch-free design.

Ziggy uses a fully analogue signal path, with dual oscillators and a low-pass gate, while digital control enables helpful management features such as preset storage, modulation assignment and integrated effects. The instrument is designed to offer a more immediate alternative to traditional modular setups, replacing patch cables with tactile modulation assignment using a variety of switches, sliders and an encoder.

A key feature is the Cycler, a multi-function modulation source combining elements of a clock, envelope, LFO, and random generator, alongside additional modulation from a dedicated oscillator, slow LFO and external MIDI control. The modulation oscillator can operate at both low and audio rates, supporting AM and FM, while the complex oscillator includes wavefolding and shaping options for a wide range of timbres.

Ziggy’s low-pass gate can operate as a VCA, filter, or combination of both, with envelope shaping based on blended curves rather than traditional ADSR controls. The instrument also includes stereo digital effects such as reverb, delay, chorus, and pitch-based processing.

Connectivity includes MIDI over USB-C and DIN, 1V/oct CV, and external audio input, allowing integration with Eurorack systems, controllers such as the LEM218 and DAW-based setups. Up to 100 presets can be stored and managed via onboard controls or a browser-based editor using WebMIDI.

Housed in a compact enclosure with an oak and steel finish, Ziggy is designed as a standalone instrument while remaining compatible with a wide range of external hardware and software.
