Buzzing Bugs Audio Devices introduce the Bolster

Fuzz pedal joins UK company's line-up

Buzzing Bugs Audio Devices Bolster guitar fuzz effects pedal

UK-based pedal makers Buzzing Bugs Audio Devices have recently unveiled their latest creation, the Bolster. Said to pay homage to the myths and legends of the company’s home county of Cornwall, the new effect has been named after a folklore giant that lived near the cliffs of Chapel Porth and terrorised the people of the nearby village — an appropriate title for a fuzz pedal!

The new arrival is a two-channel design that has been designed to cover a wide range of classic and modern tones. Its main channel employs a silicon transistor circuit, and includes a Volts control that makes it possible to over- or under-supply the circuitry, allowing it to cover everything from Tone Bender-style sounds to “synthy buzzsaws”. Plenty of tone-shaping control is available, with a Shift dial interacting with the input circuitry and a Tone control providing classic Big Muff-style EQ. The More channel then delivers what Buzzing Bugs describe as “a speaker-destroying op-amp one-knob fuzz which offers a monolithic amount of sustain.”

Everything comes housed in a rugged die-cast metal enclosure fitted with top-mounted jack sockets. The unit offers true bypass switching, and accepts power from a standard centre-negative 9V DC supply.
