Cyma Forma and French artist Bambounou have announced RND synth, a compact hardware synthesizer built around generative sound creation and randomisation.
The instrument is built around a single-button which generates an entirely new musical idea on each press. Each patch can contain up to four simultaneous instruments, with individual sequences running across four tracks. According to the developers, every parameter is randomised with each press of the button, creating entirely fresh combinations of sounds, synthesis settings and sequencing data in an instant. And with more than four billion possible patches, Cyma Forma invite their users to "trade control for inspiration".
RND synth includes eight synthesis engines: subtractive, FM, acid, noise, speech, Karplus-Strong, supersaw and additive. Users can also work with 20 scales, five filter types and a range of MIDI and sync modes.
Connectivity includes four-track audio over USB-C, stereo audio output on mini-jack, USB-C MIDI I/O and analogue sync connections which allow the synth to be played from an external keyboard or controller. Each instrument track can also be output separately over USB for recording or further processing.
Cyma Forma describe the instrument as an "infinite source of sounds" designed to encourage experimentation and inspiration rather than detailed programming.
Pricing & Availability
RND synth will be available to pre-order from 5 May via Cyma Forma’s website, with shipping expected to begin in late June. Pricing is set at €125 excluding VAT.
Cyma Forma demonstrate the RND Synth at Superbooth 2026 in Berlin at booth Z245.
