Celemony’s latest update for their virtual session musician platform complements the existing line-up of instruments with something a little different: the calabash.
Capturing performances by Grammy-nominated percussionist and multi-instrumentalist David Kuckhermann, the latest Tonalic update delivers a warm, organic sound that is rarely heard in modern production and is likely unfamiliar to most users. Alongside the headline instrument, the latest update widens Tonalic's hand-percussion collection with new cajons, congas, udus and brush-played djembes, delivering a set of sounds that are equally at home in singer-songwriter, pop, EDM and hip hop productions.
Kuckhermann has performed on stages around the world, from the Royal Albert Hall in London to tours with Dead Can Dance. Having learned from masters across the traditions of Iran, India, Egypt, Turkey, Europe and Africa, he weaves those influences into a style that’s entirely his own, combining traditional percussion with a forward-looking, creative approach. Celemony say that his recordings, with their numerous variations, transitions and endings, offer a genuine enrichment of the Tonalic library.

Tonalic is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or above, and Macs running macOS 12 and higher. VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.
