IK Multimedia have announced the upcoming launch of Sinphonica, a new family of Italian orchestral instruments designed for modern composers and created entirely in Italy. The first release, Sinphonica Maestosa Strings, captures the sound of a 60-piece Italian string orchestra, and offers some innovative performance technologies designed with natural, musical expression in mind.
The 60-piece ensemble comprises 16 first violins, 14 second violins, 12 violas, 10 celli and eight double basses, and has been recorded at Officine Meccaniche Studios. IK say that the new library captures not only the sound of an orchestra, but also the interaction, movement, and emotion that make every performance unique.
Where many modern sample libraries require extensive programming, Sinphonica takes a different approach, and includes an array of features that aim to offer a more natural approach to orchestration. Responsive True Legato, Articulation Morphing and Dynamic Curve features allow the instrument to respond in a natural-sounding way to users’ playing, while a PALCO virtual stage positioning system makes it possible to customise the layout of the instrument sections, and eight microphone perspectives offer some flexible tonal options when it comes to mixing.
Sinphonica Maestosa Strings can be purchased as an all-in-one collection, or as individual instrument sections. The company say that as additional orchestral families are introduced, they will become part of the same ecosystem and share the same expressive philosophy and performance-driven workflow.
