The newest addition to IK Multimedia’s ever-growing TONEX line-up introduces a set of three incredibly rare British-made amps that helped to shape the sound of classic rock.
Royal 45 Legends Signature Collection captures the sound of three early 45-Watt Marshall heads from the company’s private vault, each of which is said to offer its own distinct personality and historical significance. Two were sourced from the legendary Capitol Records collection in Los Angeles, while the third came from one of Europe's most respected vintage Marshall collections.
The first amp is a 1964 White Tolex that was originally built for Brian Poole and The Tremeloes, a model which the company describe as “exceptionally touch-sensitive and harmonically rich”, and is said to deliver a dynamic feel that responds beautifully to picking attack and changes in guitar volume.
Next up is an early 1964 White Panel model that employs rare components and is renowned for its articulate response and harmonic complexity, and delivers a lively, expressive tone that echoes early British blues-rock recordings. Finally, a 1965 transition-era model equipped with KT66 tubes and RS transformers offers a warmer, smoother voice with a more rounded overdrive character.
Every Tone Model included in the new collection was captured using period-correct cabinets loaded with Celestion G12M25 Greenbacks and early-1960s Celestion G12 Alnico speakers. Multiple configurations were used — including Greenbacks, Alnico and mixed setups — allowing users to explore a wide range of vintage tones.
Compatibility
Royal 45 Legends Signature Collection runs in IK Multimedia’s TONEX software, which is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or higher, and Macs running macOS 11 and above. VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available, along with a standalone application.
