The latest version of iZotope’s flagship restoration suite is now available, and now offers over 50 tools designed to tackle flawed recordings. RX 12 introduces two entirely new modules, Stems View and Scene Rebalance, and boasts a number of improvements to its existing tools thanks to some behind-the-scenes tweaks.
What’s New?
The first of the new additions is Scene Rebalance, a module that’s capable of separating audio from film and TV scenes into distinct dialogue, music and effects stems, allowing users to quickly adjust the balance of key elements within a single recording. Stems View then works alongside the new Scenes Rebalance module — and the existing Music Rebalance and Dialogue Isolate modules — and offers a way to apply any of RX’s other tools to each individual element before recombining and exporting them.
As well as bringing some new modules to the table, RX 12 also delivers a range of improvements to its existing line-up. De-bleed, for example, has been treated to a complete rebuild, and thanks to the latest machine-learning technology, is now capable of isolating instruments without the need for a reference track. It’s also now available as a real-time tool.
Music Rebalance and Dialogue Isolate have also been updated. The former is now available as a real-time process, and promises cleaner-sounding separation thanks to improved neural nets. The latter benefits from similar enhancements, and is said to deliver improved performance in both offline and real-time modes.
Along with the headline features, the latest update also introduces some general improvements. A new trim silence tool allows RX 12 to automatically detect and delete regions of silence in long audio files, speeding up editing for podcasts, audio books, dialogue and so on. The interface has been updated, too, and now features a larger spectrogram, a new module search and a resizable History panel.
