Berlin-based KOMA Elektronik have announced Monoplex, a new 42HP Eurorack sequencer designed for hands-on melodic sequencing, generative patching and microtonal experimentation.
Inspired by the design and workflow of the company’s larger Komplex sequencer (reviewed in SOS May 2016), Monoplex condenses the concept into a compact single-channel design with extensive CV control over core sequencing functions including sequence length, transpose, gate length, glide, step repeats, playback direction and clock divisions.
The module is built around an expanded quantiser system that supports user-defined scales and microtonal tuning. Alongside standard chromatic, major and minor scales, Monoplex allows users to upload custom tunings via MIDI SysEx using KOMA’s browser-based editor, with support for thousands of microtonal scales and alternate tuning systems.
The module also features live MIDI note capture for defining scales in real time, while MIDI output with pitch bend support enables compatible external synths to play microtonal material correctly.
Additional features include CV, gate and trigger outputs, MIDI sequencing, multiple playback modes, swing, ratcheting, one-shot playback and flexible clock synchronisation via analogue and MIDI connections.
According to KOMA Elektronik, Monoplex is designed to move easily between structured sequencing and evolving generative systems, with every major parameter available for voltage control.
