Neumann have partnered with the Bon Scott Estate to create a limited-edition version of the U 47 FET that honours both the iconic rock singer and the microphone that captured his voice on some of the most influential rock records of all time. Based on the current production reissue of the classic mic, the U 47 FET Bon Scott Edition is said to pair the “unmistakable sound of a true studio classic” with bold visual elements and a premium collector’s presentation.
Introduced in 1972 as the solid state successor to the original tube-based U 47, the U 47 FET quickly became a go-to choice for loud, demanding sources. One of the many records it found its way onto was AC/DC’s ‘Let There Be Rock’, where it was selected by producers Harry Vanda and George Young for its ability to ‘keep up’ with Bon Scott’s explosive vocal style, and ensure his voice would cut though the album’s thunderous guitar tones.
It returned to the Neumann line-up in 2014, and remains a popular choice among today’s engineers. The Bon Scott Edition promises to preserve the mic’s legacy, delivering identical sound and performance to the current U 47 fet reissue, but with the following limited-edition enhancements:
- Matte-black finish with bold Bon Scott graphics.
- Bon Scott’s name and signature on the microphone body.
- Exclusive black wooden presentation box.
- Collector’s booklet featuring an interview with producer Harry Vanda.
Pricing & Availability
The U 47 FET Bon Scott Edition is available now, priced at $4999€4949. In Europe, it will be available from select Neumann dealers; in North and South America, it will be sold exclusively through Sweetwater and Guitar Centre.
