PSPaudioware’s latest release offers automatic level adjustment and provides more detailed control than many traditional dynamic processors, as well as offering a quicker alternative to writing-in fader automation.
PSP Levelizer promises to keep audio levels consistent while preserving the natural dynamics and musical ‘feel’ of the source material. The company say it can be put to work on everything from vocal levelling and bass control to dialogue processing and mix automation, and is suitable for a wide range of tasks both in the studio and on stage.
The plug-in’s levelling parameters are housed in the centre section, where users can set their target level using a Reference fader. A Floor fader follows, setting the signal level at which the auto-fader returns to its default position, and is joined by a Response fader, which determines the direction and strength of the auto-fader’s movement. Upper and lower movement limits can be defined using a pair of Range handles, and a Gain fader sets the output gain level that’s used when the Auto button is disengaged — when Auto is switched on the Gain fader displays the level adjustment implemented by the plug-in.
Over to the left, you’ll find Shape EQ and Bell EQ filters that can be applied to the plug-in’s side-chain signal, making it possible to focus the processing on specific frequency ranges. PSP Levelizer also includes a built-in limiter that boasts adjustable Drive, Ceiling, Release and stereo-linking settings.
