fedDSP have announced the launch of Raiju, a new guitar pedal-style saturation plug-in that’s capable of delivering everything from vintage character to ultra-tight modern distortion. And in celebration of its release, the company are kindly offering it as a free download for a limited time.

The company say that RAIJU has been built around a focused overdrive stage that’s designed to tighten the low end, push the midrange forward and add the kind of ‘bite’ that helps a source cut through a mix. A Modern mode offers a tight, aggressive drive that’s well suited to rhythm guitars that require some focus and speed, while a Vintage mode delivers a fuller, more classic-sounding response that adds some body and weight to incoming signals.

An immediate control set includes Drive, Level, Tone and Bite parameters, but despite drawing its inspiration from distortion pedals, Raiju is said to be capable of far more than guitar-processing duties. It promises to work equally well on sources such as drum overheads, or adding some edge and a more in-your-face sound to synth parts.
