Schwabe Digital have just released a major free update for their acclaimed high-frequency dynamics processing plug-in. HiFAL 2 takes a significant step forward and introduces a new Parallel Limiter with frequency-dependent stereo widening, three newly developed filter architectures, expanded oversampling, a Match Volume function, updated metering and a redesigned interface.
The latest version also expands the plug-in’s Parallel Limiter (PARALIMIT) section with new Mid and Side isolation options, allowing users to independently target the centre or stereo information within an isolated high-frequency range. A new filter bank then offers three modes: Linear, Dynamic and Live, each of which provide distinct phase and latency characteristics while maintaining closely matched frequency responses.
In development for over a year, the filter bank is based around a completely custom linear-phase filter architecture which Schwabe Digital say dramatically reduces audible pre-ringing by collapsing it into an extremely short window around the transient. The filter technology was developed entirely in-house, and will form the foundation of filtering systems across future Schwabe Digital products.
Key Features
- New Parallel Limiter with Mid, LR, and Side processing
- Frequency-dependent stereo widening
- Linear, Dynamic, and zero-latency Live filter modes
- Oversampling up to 32x
- Match Volume
- Expanded gain-reduction metering
- Redesigned interface and workflow
- Full recall of existing HiFAL sessions
“We did not want to change what people loved about HiFAL. We wanted to see how far we could push the technology underneath it. What started as an update became more than a year of research into filtering, widening, and the processing architecture that will power our future products.” — Ryan Schwabe, Founder, Schwabe Digital
