With a second console now joining their O-Series, SSL have announced the upcoming launch of O-Series V2.0, a software update that will deliver some powerful new tools for session compatibility, automation, Instant Recall management and workflow efficiency, while establishing complete project compatibility between the Oracle and the recently launched Odyssey console.
Oracle & Odyssey Compatibility
At the heart of O-Series V2.0 is complete project compatibility between the Oracle and Odyssey. Projects created on an Odyssey console will soon be able to be opened, viewed, edited and resaved directly on any Oracle system, regardless of channel-count differences between the consoles. Even parameters associated with Odyssey-exclusive features, including its dynamics processing and low-pass filters, remain fully intact when projects are transferred and edited on Oracle.
O-Motion Automation
O-Series V2.0 will also introduce O-Motion, SSL's new DAW plug-in-based automation system. Integrated directly with the user's DAW session, O-Motion will allow console parameter movements to be recorded, edited and replayed using the automation tools in platforms such as Pro Tools and Logic Pro. Each console’s large and small faders, pans, cuts, inserts, EQ sections, filters, dynamics and bus parameters will be controllable directly from the DAW and unlike traditional console automation systems, O-Motion stores the data within DAW automation playlists and lanes, enabling users to copy, edit and manipulate console moves using the same process they already rely on for software instruments and plug-ins.
And More!
The update will also enhance the Snapshot system, with a new Snapshot Filters function providing engineers with far greater control over what information is stored and recalled. Individual channels, processing sections or parameter groups can now be included or excluded from Snapshot operations, allowing users to compare alternative mix approaches, preserve processing choices across song sections, or isolate specific elements without affecting the wider mix. Channel Presets will enable engineers to capture and store their favourite EQ, dynamics, input and filter sections, bus sends, faders and processing order settings for Instant Recall across future sessions.
Other new additions include TouchView, which automatically displays relevant parameters on the consoles’ screens as users interact with a channel’s controls, and O-Verview, a new window that provides a comprehensive console-wide display of channel metering, fader positions, solos and cuts in a single screen.
"Future Analogue has always been about removing the compromises that traditionally separated analogue sound from ITB workflow. O-Series V2.0 represents the first of many major steps forward in that vision. Whether you're moving between Oracle and Odyssey systems, automating console parameters directly from your DAW, or creating personalised processing presets, this release enables engineers to work faster, more creatively and with greater confidence than ever before." — Niall Feldman, Director of Special Projects, SSL
