UVI have just announced the release of Orchestral Suite 2, a ground-up redesign of their all-in-one symphonic orchestra instrument. The latest version features all-new recordings, offers editable multi-microphone setups and centres around a newly designed engine that builds on the capabilities of the original collection.
Solo and ensemble performances by string, brass and woodwind sections are joined by a selection of percussion instruments, along with choir patches and a set of additional instruments including cathedral organ, harpsichord, celesta, classical guitar and harp. Everything has been performed by top professional players, and all of the included articulations have been recorded rather than modelled.
A headline feature of the latest version is Composer, a new chord engine designed to speed up the process of writing orchestral parts. The function allows a single key press to create fully voiced chords across multiple instrument sections, with users able to control chord type, voicing and dynamics from the instrument’s GUI. UVI say that the feature can be put to work at every stage of the writing process, from sketching out initial ideas to arranging final cues, all without users needing to leave their keyboard.
Behind the scenes, the additional content is hosted by a newly designed engine, which offers a set of macro controls for immediacy, along with more in-depth parameters for those who prefer a little more control. The factory preset library has also been rebuilt, and now includes a set of new patches created specifically for the new recordings.
