ALM/Busy Circuits Quaid Gigaslope

‘A hands‑on, menu‑free, jam‑friendly complex modulator’ is how ALM/Busy Circuits chalk up the Quaid Gigaslope, which takes the design principles of the preceding Quaid Megaslope and runs with it, well, a very long way. The Megaslope offered an elegant five‑stage function generator that nodded toward the West Coast and could be used as a complex envelope, a very editable LFO or a diminutive step sequencer. The Gigaslope is similarly visually intuitive and tactile, only it takes the number of stages to a formidable 13 and moreover is endowed with four separate output channels to use any which way, separate or convergent. Don’t worry, all will become clear.

Now, to state the obvious: the Quaid Gigaslope is massive. At 52HP wide it’s definitely up there among the largest modules of its — or any — type you’re likely to find; most in this size category are all‑in‑one modules of some sort, but the Gigaslope is not offering an all‑in‑one module: it is, so to speak, a one‑for‑all module, since it caters to more or less anything you can imagine a multi‑stage function generator catering to. And in many ways this justifies its size, since it can all but assume the role of several modules at once.

At the Quaid Gigaslope’s foundational level are sliders for adjusting its 13 stages’ voltage values, along with a Time and Curve knob for each. The Time knobs are essentially slew limiters to adjust how long any given stage takes to reach its maximum value; while Curve adjusts the shape of that movement through logarithmic, linear and exponential shapes.
