The original Objeq Delay by Applied Acoustic Systems is one of my favourite creative plug‑ins, so I was intrigued to see what the designers could add to it — and it seems the answer is ‘more of everything’. But let’s back up a bit, for the benefit of those who have never encountered the original. The most notable feature of Objeq Delay, which supports AU, VST, and AAX plug‑in hosts on Mac and Windows, is its ability to generate delays that can be coloured using resonators that are based on physical objects, such as membranes, strings or metal bars. A flexible modulation section is then used to add real‑time variation to the effect, which can be set up to enhance just about any source from vocals to percussion. Real‑time control over any parameter via MIDI is supported, as is host automation.
In version 2, the GUI layout has been reorganised into six distinct sections that include an I/O module with level and wet/dry balance controls in addition to metering, and each section has a bypass button. Objeq Delay 2 now has two modulator sections, each of which can be assigned to a wide choice of parameter destinations, such as filter frequency, material or formant, with a choice of six sources: envelope follower, sine, square or pulse LFO waveforms, or a monophonic pitch follower.
