Blackstar’s new pocket‑size amp punches well above its weight!
Battery‑powered mini guitar amps have suddenly become very sophisticated. Similar in size to the Positive Grid Spark Go or the JBL BandBox Solo — though a touch deeper — the new Blackstar Beam Mini is powered by a rechargeable battery offering up to 18 hours of operation per charge, with an approximately two‑hour recharge time. Remarkably, given its size, it offers stereo operation thanks to Blackstar’s Super Wide Stereo technology, creating a deceptively spacious stereo image despite the close spacing of the speakers. This compact amp can also be used as a Bluetooth speaker for music playback or backing tracks, and can function as an audio interface via its USB‑C port (which is also used to charge the internal battery). USB audio recording on iOS and Android tablets and phones is also supported.
The enclosure and speaker system were designed in partnership with UK acoustics specialist Chris Ellis, and are based around two small but powerful 60mm, full‑range speakers, with a pair of passive radiators positioned at either end of the cabinet and vented through slots in the front baffle.
