Dawsome Love 2 is the second iteration of a multi‑effects plug‑in that’s especially well suited to sound design, creating cinematic textures and of course ambient music production. Incoming sounds can be transformed into something that very often bears little or no resemblance to the input signal, and these transformations make use of granular processing plus modulation, filtering, delay, dynamics, distortion and reverb. It’s all wrapped up in a very friendly and colourful user interface, and Mac and Windows hosts of AU, VST3 or AAX plug‑in formats are supported.
The input signal first encounters a dedicated granular processing section, where there are controls for grain size, density, pitch‑shift and so on, as well as stretching, reversing and scattering in time. An Offset control allows the granular engine to reach further back into the granular buffer, and there are global input and output level controls as well as a master wet/dry Mix knob. Most typical granular effects are on offer, but it never gets over complicated. Short grains sound more strongly defined, whereas longer ones tend to blend into washes, turning sources such as pianos into swelling pads or transforming vocals into ethereal choirs. Randomisation functions (for example adjusting the probability of grains being reversed or...
