Jonny Solway is the chief engineer at Dean Street Studios in London, and has worked with big names including Robbie Williams, Take That, James Arthur and Little Mix. Asked to break down a favourite sound from his catalogue, he nominates the small but extreme drum sound on Demob Happy’s 2019 track ‘Autoportrait’.
“The track has a very Queens Of The Stone Age vibe to it, with the sound of the drums very chopped up, but everything was played live. The sound of the kit has almost become programmed‑sounding.
