How 'bout ART TubeOpto 8 unit?

Postby SMV_Argentina » Sun Sep 29, 2013 12:20 am

Hi chaps:
I am looking into purchasing an 8-channel ADAT expansion for my MOTU 828MkII.

I had the Behringer ADA8000 on the radar, but I read that it might have issues syncing with MOTU boards (and the ADA8200 is out on the market but still has not arrived in my country)

I've been offered an ART TubeOpto 8 at a reasonable price (and available now..), but could not find a review on the magazine. Does anybody have good or bad experiences with ART and this particular piece?

Don't have that model but I have it's predecessor the Tubefire 8 and it is excellent. Very quiet on the snr front and you can wind in the gain to warm things up a little. It definitely has a more rounded sound compared to the digital only pres. Built like a tank too.

If you don't want D/A, only A/D conversion you could consider a second hand M-Audio Octane as well. I got one of these on ebay for very cheap and it's great - it has line outs from the pres, line in to the A/D (so you can use these as inserts as well), and word clock, instrument ins and an MS matrix.
