Advice re sync

Postby CRM27 » Sat Mar 10, 2012 10:28 pm

Hi, I've recently co-written and produced a track which will be released soon digitally (on the artist's own label) and on 12"(by another label). There's a good chance that there will be some sync activity on the track. In terms of a sync license being granted and payment being made for sync usage, can I expect to receive part of that usage fee?

Yes. As co-writer, you should be entitled to a share of the sync fee for the composition (usually 50% of the total license fee).

I presume that the artist's record label will own the master so you would not normally be entitled to a share of the fee for this (the remaining 50% of the total).
