Avalon Guitars closing?

Postby Folderol » Fri May 25, 2012 6:47 pm

Just seen an item on the BBC website about this.
Anyone got any more information?
Anyone got or used one of their guitars?

You know, and I know, but they don't know... So keep your mouth shut!

That's a shame.

I'm a Lowden owner myself - Avalon took George Lowden's no-expense-spared designs and pruned them for a more affordable instrument. IMO they weren't quite as good as a Lowden, but then they were half the price, and they still do have that sweetness to them which makes Lowdens the best fingerstyle steel-string around (IMO again). I haven't kept track of Avalon since I got my Lowden back in 2002 though, and checking the web, it looks like they've wavered a bit on their business plan over the years.
