Automat Toolkit turns the world into a drum machine

Kickstarter funds secure production of unusual instrument

Berlin-based studio Dadamachines has launched an intriguing Kickstarter campaign to go into production on the Automat Toolkit. According to Johannes of Dadamachines, Automat toolkit is a plug-and-play MIDI-controller and accessories kit that “allows anyone to build music machines using the real world as their instrument.”

At the heart of the toolkit is the Automat, an Arduino-compatible MIDI-controller with 12 DC outputs. You can then connect to these outputs to the supplied solenoid beaters in order to tap, ping or knock on virtually anything. The Automat Toolkit is compatible with any MIDI-enabled software or hardware and looks like stacks of fun.

At the time of writing, the Kickstarter campaign had already reached its funding goal, so production looks to be confirmed. You can buy the Automat Toolkit now for €399.
