Harman Professional has built an impressive portfolio of respected pro audio brands including Dbx, Soundcraft, AKG and JBL. Since announcing their ambition to connect all these brands through a system called the 'Connected PA', we've seen a steady trickle of intriguing developments.
The 'Connected PA' ecosystem is designed to allow mics, speakers and DIs to be recognised by the mixer and control app, making setup and preset management quick and easy for musicians. This is done with a technology called ioSYS, and we've already seen the Soundcraft Ui24 mixer and JBL PRX800W loudspeaker launched with this functionality.
Now, Harman and Sound Technology have announced the availability of the Dbx Di1 direct injection box, a £49 DI box that features ioSYS technology. This is ideal for musicians who want to spend less time setting up and more time focusing on their music. It still also has all the functionality you’d expect from a DI and is suitable for both studios and on the road. Connect the output from electric guitars, bass amplifiers, keyboards, etc., directly to a console mixer without the use of a microphone.
It features a signal pass through connector, XLR balanced output, TS and XLR inputs, an attenuation control, ground lift and 9V battery operation mode. It has a quoted frequency response of 10Hz to 70kHz (+0dB/-3dB), phantom powered mode, and also a metal chassis.
In addition, Harman and Sound Technology have also announced that the AKG P5i dynamic vocal microphone — also sporting ioSYS technology — is now shipping. The AKG P5i is the first microphone designed to automatically configure with the new Harman Connected PA ecosystem, providing effortless set up, instant recall of performer and presets, and great sound for musicians of all skill levels. Based on the P5 mic, the P5i features a supercardioid polar pattern and heavy duty metal construction. It is priced at £69 inc VAT.
