Oscar-winner Dario Marianelli headlines Tune Up composer event

Production Music Awards seminar programme features top composers and industry panels

There’s only one week to go until the Production Music Awards (formerly Library Music Awards) return with their exciting day of seminars titled Tune Up. This year’s headline guest is Academy Award-winning composer Dario Marianelli. Dario’s scores have accompanied everything from period dramas such as Atonement, Anna Karenina and Pride & Prejudice through to animation (Kubo and the Two Strings, The Boxtrolls) and thrillers (Everest, V for Vendetta). At the November 25th event in London, Spitfire Audio present In Conversation with Dario Marianelli, a chance to delve into Dario’s considerable body of work, and discuss tips and techniques with the acclaimed composer.

The Tune Up programme is perfect for budding composers and professionals alike with panels and speakers discussing the musical, technical and business realities of being a music composer today. There are plenty of chances to network and ask your questions with two key Q&A sessions focusing on Music in Advertising and Independent Production Music Libraries.

Other sessions include:

9.00 - ‘Industry Insight: The Many Roles of a Composer with Rael Jones.
It's part of the craft that isn’t talked about too much. Often on larger films there are a number of Composers credited with writing ‘additional music’, ‘Music Editor’ and ‘Music Supervisor’. In this session, we intend to explore these aspects of the role with the help of Composer Rael Jones. As well as being a successful writer in his own right, Rael’s credits include ‘Music Programmer’ (Beauty and the Beast), ‘Music Editor’ (Steve Jobs) and ‘Composer: Additional Music’ (Sherlock).

10.30 - Industry Insight: Production Music Q&A Panel - Independent Libraries
Are you interested to learn more about the ins and outs of the industry from those working on the front line? Particularly, the challenges and opportunities that arise from being an independent production music library, and what that means for composers working with them? This panel will  be discussing these points, amongst others.

11: 45 - Industry Q&A Panel - Music in Advertising
The Production Music Awards team have put together a stellar line up of Music Supervisors for this panel! Featuring Sophie Urquhart (Tin Drum), Lisa James (Ninja Tune), Rachel Menzies (Native) and John Connan (Wake the Town). What is the current state of Music in Advertising? Should we be paying attention to particular trends? Learn a little more about this area of the industry during the session, as well as discussing the tools composers need to make their mark in such a competitive arena.

13:45 - Spitfire Presents: In Conversation with Dario Marianelli
We’re combining forces with Spitfire Audio once again, this time to bring you ‘In Conversation with Dario Marianelli’. During this session we’ll be delving into Dario’s considerable body of work, and discussing tips and techniques with the Academy Award-winning composer.

15:30 - Musicians’ Union Presents: Session Legends with Peter Gregson
In association with the Musicians’ Union, we’re delighted to be bringing back our ‘Session Legends’ session to Tune Up for a third year. This year we’ll be hearing from prolific Cellist and Composer Peter Gregson. Peter has played on some of the biggest films released in the last few years, including Hacksaw Ridge, Kung Fu Panda 3 and MI-5.
