Steinberg have released Materials: Wood & Water. The result of a collaboration with Magnetic 96, who specialise in sampling and processing unusual sound sources, this latest software instrument in the Materials series runs in the company’s HALion software sampler.
The instrument features 11 extended playing techniques, and samples an 18-piece string ensemble in addition to other wooden instruments such as a piano, marimba and guitar played in various ways. Also on offer are a range of synthesizer textures, along with different types of recorded wood and water sound effects. The instrument’s sound engine provides four layers that offer playback of multiple samples as well as wavetable and granular synthesis.
The instrument is also capable of running in HALion Sonic SE, the company's free VST and AU version of the sampler which is available for virtually any DAW.
