The four samples included on this page are taken from Cinerama's Disco Volante album with the kind permission of David Gedge. The samples were chosen to best illustrate the recording techniques and instrumentation used on the album.

1. 146 Degrees
This sample is taken from the first half of '146 Degrees'. The style of the track immediately brings the Spaghetti Western score music of Ennio Morricone to mind through its particular use of guitar and female backing vocals. Organ and piano feature prominently, as do flute and strings. The ambient drum sound created by Steve Albini is also very apparent at the start of the track.

2. Lollobrigida
This sample begins about halfway through the album track. It features flute, accordion, vibes, tremolo guitar and keyboards. The song appears to be influenced more by the music of Serge Gainsbourg than either Ennio Morricone or John Barry.

3. Apres Ski
The 'Apres Ski' sample was chosen to highlight its prominent surf guitar sound. The basic arrangement seems to have been inspired by American Western film scores. Strings are introduced on the choruses.

4. Wow
The fourth sample, taken from the end of 'Wow', begins with almost every instrument already playing in the mix. Guitars and orchestration take it in turns to provide the lead line while the rest of the arrangement thrashes away. Managing the 'wall of sound' presented a considerable challenge during the mix for co-producer Dare Mason. Mason: "At the End Of 'Wow' there must be at least five separate guitar parts in addition to bass, drums, flute, cello, violin, horns and there's probably a couple of keyboard parts in there as well."
