Done - but did have several problems / issues....

There is not enough space in "Other" to complete properly as I ran out of space before I had finished, so most of my replies can only be partial.

You missed off virtually all the shows I attended - EG: AES (Europe), PLASA North, SoundPro, etc... PLASA London has really gone downhill and major audio companies no longer exhibit there, but they *do* exhibit at PLASA North, which is an excellent show.

MPS was not a good show last year, but since BVE is no more the new "MPTS" (Media Production & Technology Show) in Olympia in May should be very good as it has the best of both. Also AES Dublin was good last year and AES Vienna at the end of May should also be good. Also, I think the Tonmeister Tagung will be this year and, I am told, is always excellent.

Several DAWs were missing from the list - Sequoia, Pyramix and SADiE seemed to be missing, and these are the best three.

Also - you *require* an answer to the question about desktop computer - Like a lot of people now, I don't use a desktop computer at all - you cannot leave this blank; there is no box to say "I don't use a desktop" so I had to click "other" to progress. :headbang:

Sad to see that the Monitor Setup Guide was a Genelec book, rather than an SOS publication, which would have meen more useful as it would not have been brand specific.

Hope these comments are useful - they are meant to be constructive.

One thing that I noticed was that there was no mention of vinyl or cassette when talking about release formats. Around 50% or more of the masters I produce will have a vinyl release - sometimes exclusively vinyl while at other times in conjunction with other formats.

The last question doesn't let you mark both "bought" and "intend to buy" in the same category (Eurorack modules, obviously ....)

I seem to recall you had to buy something secondhand to move to the next page.

Started to fill in out but on my phone the text entry boxes were behaving oddly and it seemed as if words/letters were being replaced when the box was full, rather than scrolling. It also truncated words when I typed a space so I'll wait until I get back to a desktop in the weekend to do it properly.

Also, for the question about playing in front of an audience, there is no option for 'very occasionally', the nearest being 'never' or 'a few times a year', neither of which accurately apply to me.

I think we all know how hard it is to create a perfect survey -- students posting here are told often enough... ;-) -- and including every possible option to cater for everyone's precise and unique situation would make the thing even longer and more complicated than it already is.

It's only providing a guide impression of the SOS readership, not a binding life insurance contract...

Would you say the frequency of your public performances sits closer to once or twice most years, or barely once every couple of years... (essentially never!)

It's a bit bossy for a survey - blanks can happen! but fun anyway.

What's the Genelec tie in here?

Take my advice, I'm not using it.

Paraphrased:

Q - Do you get a paper mag?
A - no

Q - how many people read your mag?
A - what mag?

Me - (Ok, I'll leave it blank)
Survey says... "You can't leave it blank, answer the question".
Me - Grrr, I've got this far and somebody else wants to use the bathroom, "ok, 1". (Seethe)

I've filed my SOS return :D

It didn't ask me for an email address in the contact section but I assumed that's because there is already one associated with my subscription.

Also, for clarity, I answered 'yes' to the question about whether I browse with an adblocker enabled because I do, and have for years. However, I have soundonsound.com whitelisted.

Mentioning the latter in case the intention was to find out if people were browsing the SOS site with adblockers enabled or not (in which case I would be a 'no').

I filled it in too. Quite straightforward, other than the bit about buying new gear. I clicked guitar rather than bass guitar and couldn’t find how to change it. Don’t suppose it makes much difference.

Also the email address can’t be from the subscription details as I buy the print copy from Sainsbury’s so I’m not a subscriber (I don’t buy it every month is why. This is where I find out it’s just as cheap to do so!) It didn’t ask for mine either?

Shows how out of touch I am. Never heard of any of the shows listed.
