Kurzweil K2700
I'm seeing reports, and a couple of photos, of a new Kurzweil K2700. I'm hoping the rumours are true, and I'm hoping there's a version without the weighted keyboard!

Apparently there's a three-octave mini-key version that should suit you down to the ground...

Re: Kurzweil K2700
So it looks like it's a replacement for the Forte and re-uses some of the design elements of the PC4. So a sort of 'if the PC4 had full specs' type unit. More than that, it seems to tick several boxes that I have as red lines for a replacement for the Forte - proper psu, aftertouch and, importantly, proper audio inputs and audio over usb. (Hope you can use both the usb input and the analogue inputs - that would make it a very good fit for a lot of people with laptops)
Being critical, it could be argued that the specs basically bring it up to the level that the Kronos is already at ... and the Kronos is 10 years old now.
But it does look like a very capable unit. I can't wait to find out more.

I share your optimism, Dave. It does seem to be the machine that I was hoping the PC4 would be. Poly aftertouch would be the scarf on the robin on the icing on the cake.
I can't see anything on the Kurzweil site about the 2700, though. Anyone have any links?

I think it's just a leak at this stage, nothing official.

I was looking for a photo to see what kind of stone tablet they were using for a display
and came across Matrixsynth.
I know Matrix is an old timer as they once picked up on one of my ebay listings !
https://www.matrixsynth.com/2021/01/kur ... works.html
note the side bar which says tip provided annomously but the link is to a Kurzweil place holder [password only]

Looks like its got the ribbon built in now ???????
That makes sense because a year ago, £90 ribbons were being "dumped" @ £20 by Thomann, like Kurz were getting rid of the old stock.
note: Ribbons are now back up to £90

Excited to read news of the Kurzweil K2700. I've been on the lookout for a workstation for a while and put the brakes on my search, when heard that this one was on the way... Looking forwards to reading the SOS review.

Re: Kurzweil K2700
It does look interesting... and I rather like the cut of its gib. It's the first sample-based synth workstation that I've been interested in for years, I like the fact that it does FM and the specs look really good, though I wish it had poly AT!
Could be a good candidate for the central workstation in my studio later this year. One to keep an eye on

Re: Kurzweil K2700
USB Host functionality further allows for connecting USB class compliant devices such as an alternate keyboard controller or external fader/knob unit.
Gawd bless 'em - they listened! I've made this point about the Forte (vs the Kronos) a couple of times over the years. Nice one.
It also doesn't have a midi thru - not a huge thing, but I suppose that it's just no longer really needed for this kind of unit in this day and age.
The one niggle I can see straight off is that they have returned the screen brightness knob to the back panel rather than the front. I bust a couple of PC3s with this as if the unit is put down on it's back, it presses that in and breaks it.
I can see one of these finding its way chez moi sometime. :)
