The Elf's 2500/2600 'Frankensynth'

Postby The Elf » Sat Feb 27, 2021 3:07 pm

Looks like I have a while to wait for the top layer, but this will be the result...

A Tolex cabinet is being made for the 2600 (power supply hidden inside and IEC socket on the outside). The top layer will be a cre8audio NiftyCASE, which includes a USB/MIDI to CV interface. This will give the two halves some level of independence. Obviously the '2500' upper layer will be borrowing heavily from the 2600 for such as envelopes.

My 2500/2600 'Frankensynth'!

Nice! Is the random module a sample and hold?

It is both a dual noise generator and a dual random S/H. The 2500 noise has a very specific character that I like.

So this is a 2600 + a quarter of a 2500, so call it maybe a 600... so you're building an ARP 3400. Nice!

Interesting, what’s unique about the noise? I love Buchla noise generators too, is it like those? they are very organic sounding, more like escaping steam than pure white noise.

It has a grittiness, almost like the tambourine on a CR-78. It sounds amazing through a phaser.

I've spent precious little time with a real 2500, but this I do remember. I did a bit of research to make sure my memory was sound and those in the know have guided my decision.

Looks like the 2500 part of my synth won't be arriving until August, according to the supplier.

Hhmmm? Do you mean it’s sharp? I’ll have to have a listen, sounds opposite to the Buchla.
I was looking at designing my rack around a few 2500 modules, but Behringer always jump the gun, things shouldn’t appear on shop sites, or say "shipping now" if they aren’t.
