So I can't figure out how to click directly to a forum post, rather than it taking me to the beginning of the thread.
If the thread is massive, I don't want to read it all. Am I missing something? Thank you.

You searched for a very specific term. That only appeared in the first post in the topic. Hence the search engine taking you to the first post.
In your screen shot you will see that the other two hits are specific posts in other topics (you can spot this because they both start Re:.
The Elf is looking at the forum listings rather than the search results page. Most of us navigate using the "view new posts" link at the top of the forum index. This has all the topics you've viewed recently and when there is a new post you will see the symbols The Elf has highlighted.
That link also has the benefit of showing all the topics you have read recently.
