AES NY 2019 — Samson Satellite

Affordable three-pattern USB condenser mic targets podcasters & phone-based recordists

Samson's Satellite was announced in January and will finally be available around the New Year, but we got a sneak preview on Samson's stand at AES New York, as you can see in the video above. A super-affordable 24/96-capable USB condenser mic with included connection cable, it retails for just $99 in the US (UK pricing has yet to be confirmed) but packs a lot in for that price.

For a $99 USB mic, the Samson Satellite has a lot to offer, with three pickup patterns and a built-in headphone amp and jack for those that don't have other means of monitoring. For a $99 USB mic, the Samson Satellite has a lot to offer, with three pickup patterns and a built-in headphone amp and jack for those that don't have other means of monitoring.

With three pickup patterns (omni, cardioid and figure-of-eight) and a built in touch-sensitive mute button, it targets people recording or podcasting from their phones, and with that in mind, is compatible with iOS and Android devices (as well as Mac or PC computers). There's even a built-in headphone monitoring jack with adjustable output level control in the base for phone-based users who may not have any other means of monitoring — although the output can be disabled with a dedicated switch for those that don't need it. We look forward to trying one out soon!
