The International Music Software Trade Association exists to promote the use of legally bought music software, but does it in as fun a way as possible by running free events all over the world where, as they put it, they bring "music-makers together in an environment where they can network, interact, and learn from industry experts and each other face-to-face." IMSTA FESTA (as these events are known) started in Tokyo and New York in 2009, came to Europe for the first time in 2017 with a now-annual event in Berlin, and on May 25, will be held in the UK for the first time, at the SAE Institute in North London.
The one-day event runs from 11am to 6pm and includes an exhibition of the latest music software from 24 participating software houses, production and songwriting critique sessions, a songwriting competition (the winner nets an opportunity to record their composition at Black Rock Studios, Santorini, Greece), and a programme of afternoon tech masterclasses run by manufacturers including Celemony, Presonus, Fabfilter and Steinberg. At midday, Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Lady V will deliver the IMSTA FESTA keynote address. Entry is free but requires registration: see the link at the end of this item for details.
