Synthplex, a new electronic music event, is positioning itself to be the US West Coast's answer to Berlin’s successful Superbooth. The first four-day show takes place March 28-31 at the Marriott hotel in Burbank, and is the brainchild of two self-confessed electronic music fanatics, Mike Learmouth and Michael Lehmann Boddicker. The latter name may ring a bell; his synth work can be heard on classic 80s releases by Lionel Ritchie and Donna Summer, Michael Jackson’s Thriller and the Flashdance soundtrack, amongst many others before and since.

The event will feature software, hardware and modular synth showcases, seminars, guest speakers including Dave Smith of Sequential and SOS’s own Craig Anderton, and a synth museum featuring rare instruments (details of some of them can be found here). There will also be live electronic music every evening, showcasing styles ranging from arthouse to electro-pop, and culminating in an appearance on Saturday night by Thomas Dolby.
