TH-U, the latest version of the TH guitar amp simulator & processing plug-in from Italian audio processing software producer Overloud, was announced at NAMM in January and has now been released.

Compared to the previous version of the plug-in, TH3 (reviewed in SOS June 2016), TH-U adds 15 new amps and 14 new cabinets, making for a total of 89 modelled guitar amps and four bass amps, and 50 guitar and two bass cab types, together with 77 pedal and rack effects. There's a new delay and reverb known as Shimmer, and the built-in looper now has true multitracking abilities. The cabinet impulse response loader has also been revamped and improved, and the amp models have been made customisable with the addition of the Amp Tweaks window, which allows users to exchange virtual valves in the amp models. Entire guitar rigs comprising amps, cabs, mics in various positions and room acoustics, can now be captured via the new Rig To Model feature, and complete rig models can be loaded via the new Rig Player. Affordable commercial TH-U Rig libraries are also being made available; the first of these, 'British Classics' is already out.

TH-U currently retails for an introductory price of $229 via US distributor Ilio (see www.ilio.com), but it will apparently be returning to its full price of $299 in the near future. If you act fast, you can get TH-U for an introductory UK price of £175 until the end of February via UK distributor Time+Space (www.timespace.com), but the price will be rising thereafter to £205.
