Overloud have added another plug-in to their Gems series, which emulates classic studio gear. As the name suggests, the new Comp LA (£96.65$139) recreates Teletronix's classic opto-compressors, the valve-based LA-2A and the later solid-state LA-3A. The sonic differences between the original units — the 2A's warm, valve-based sound, and the 3A's faster attack and cleaner tone — are maintained in the plug-in. However, there are plenty of extra features not present on the original hardware, including the ability to control the amount of harmonic distortion introduced by the compressor, a high-pass filter which allows low frequencies to pass unprocessed, reducing 'pumping', Mid-Side compression options and a parallel compression control, which allows you to determine the amount of processed and dry signal in the plug-in's output.
