Audio Technica AE3000 Microphone

Postby GRAHAM99 » Fri Jul 20, 2018 5:11 pm

I have the opportunity to buy an Audio Technica AE3000 mic.
Has anyone had any experience of one?

Nor me, and I've never actually seen one let alone use one!

It appears to be a pretty flat and smooth electret LDC with cardioid pattern, but it's primary strength is its very high SPL capability 149dB, or 159 with pad switched in), making it a good choice for loud guitar cabs, brass, close drum mics, etc.

Self-noise is a little high for an LDC at 11dBA, but not a problem for the intended role with loud sources, and still much less than most SDCs. Sensitivity is sensible at 7mV/Pa.

All in all, it looks like a good mic for loud things! :-)

I was after another mic for guitar cabs so might be tempted!!
I take it it would not need phantom power?

Specs say phantom power in the usual 12-52V range.
