Would you like your track remixed by SOS?

Postby Matt Houghton » Thu May 08, 2014 12:35 pm

Hi All,

I've been chewing over the idea of us doing some remix projects in a similar vein to the Mix Rescue features, but with much more creativity involved. In particular, I'm looking for some indie/rock material that you'd like to see revamped into some sort of crossover dance/electronica remix. The deal is the same as with Mix Rescue — send us an MP3 and our engineers will audition it and decide if they think they can do something worthwhile. If we think we can, we'll ask for the multitracks and set about doing something — maybe to a brief, maybe giving the remixer more freedom. We can discuss that nearer the time...

Just to clear up a common question on these sort of projects... The tracks submitted must be your own work and you must own the rights to exploit it. You keep the ownership rights to your song and recordings, but you grant us the right to publish the original and the remix, as well as, potentially, some excerpts of individual elements, in both print and electronic media. If you want to make the multitracks available via us, then we could also conceivably open it up to allow anyone to have a go at remixing your track.

Anyway, if you wish to be considered for this, please drop me a line at mixrescue@soundonsound.com

[MODS - CAN YOU PLEASE MAKE THIS A STICKY?]

Thanks,

Matt

Would you guys be able to work off a stereo file (mp3)?

I'm creating arrangements myself for my catalog, so many of my songs have multi-tracks. However, I have numerous "pre-production" recordings--demos--currently available only as stereo files. The recordings have sufficient enough arrangements from which to do a remix, i.e., drums, bass, keys, synth, string and horn parts, etc. What's missing is backup vocals, drum fills and professional mix/master.

The songs are being re-arranged with entirely new virtual instruments, sample libraries and session players. But, I would love to hear what you guys can do with a dance/electronica version. And, I'd be sure to pick the right song(s) that would translate best into a dance/electronica remix.

I'm an arranger myself, although not dance/electronica. In fact, I'm currently taking an Advanced Arranging course focusing on orchestral instrumentation, in the pursuit of a 2nd Masters in Music Production and Sound Design for Visual Media, Academy of Art, San Francisco, an online program. I live in Agoura Hills, Ca., just north of LA.

I'd also like to know if a stereo file can be "enhanced" using various mix/master plugins. I won't say mastered, because that might be pushing it. But enhanced in the sense of creating a better stereo width, maybe some reverb, EQ, even compression.

Thanx you guys, for being open.

Hi All,

Sorry for the lack of activity here. In answer to various questions, yes, the offer is still here. Obviously we can't do something with all those who request help, but I will at least try to give a response.

Feel free to submit Soundcloud links, MP3s etc to me via email: mixrescue@soundonsound.com

If you don't hear back from me then your email might just have vanished into the ether so give me a nudge.

Cheers,

Matt

I have a track that I wrote 25+ years ago, but have been ‘re-working’ over the last year or so.

I'm no singer, but I've done my best to produce a reasonable demo.
There are three different versions up on SoundCloud (along with a recording of the original version, which is very crude!).
The last version (v3) is on Sonar XL so I can provide source files/stems if required....

(If the link doesn’t work search for the song ‘Flying on the Wind’ by band ‘Perpetual Motion’)

Even if this is not suitable for your remix projects, I’d be very grateful for any advice / feedback / suggestions on how to improve the mix.

Many thanks,

Paul

You doing a remix? Sure. I'd love to hear where you'd take it... the only hurdle would be sampling/clearance/copyright. Can you drop me a line with more details?

We have any content yet Matt?

Come on people, get a pro remix done for free and one that will get emblazoned (took me a week of guidance from Em to learn how to write and pronounce that western word) across the magazine and sites.

Hi All,

Just a quick reminder that this isn't the best place to ask me questions, as I don't check the thread regularly. Contact details from the original post still apply:

"Anyway, if you wish to be considered for this, please drop me a line at mixrescue@soundonsound.com"

...and please specify whether you're looking for a remix (as in developing, say, a dance track from some parts of your song), or a re-mix — as in a traditional 'Mix Rescue' feature, helping you take the mix to where you feel it wants to be.

All the best,

Matt
