Shure PSM300 remote antenna set up

Postby Clint1093 » Thu Mar 12, 2020 10:22 am

Hi, I am looking at setting up my Shure PS300 K3E (606-630MHz) IEM with a remote antenna, I don’t want to purchase a PA805 antenna due to the cost.
Can anybody tell me if I can set up on a mic stand and use the Shure UA 825 coaxial cable (25feet long), a Shure UAB-596-714 1/2 wave length antenna (596-714MHz) and not lose signal or have a dB problem?

Many thanks

I can't see any obvious reason why that combination wouldn't work. The cable is nothing special, though and you might find a better prices looking for generic 50 Ohm coaxial RF cable. (The Shure one uses Belden RG-8X, but there are lots of equivalents around).

Thanks Hugh, do you know of any good generic cables, I’ve looked at these from CPS, BNC Male to BNC Male RG58/U Coaxial Lead, 10m 50 Ohm - PSG00540?

I've not researched, but that sounds like a good option to me.

Looking at the chart at

http://rfelektronik.se/manuals/Datashee ... _Chart.pdf

RG58/U has a much higher attenuation than RG8 so won't work as well.

But for just 10m, at worst it's maybe 5dB loss for RG58/U verses 4dB for RG8.

Yes, it would have slightly more attenuation, but it is only very slightly more over a 10m cable and I doubt it would be significant in the given application. The ability to locate the aerial much nearer the receiver will probably more than make up for any cable losses too.
