Behringer UFX-1604 Available for Silly Money!

Postby Mike Stranks » Sat Jan 05, 2019 1:37 pm

Just a heads-up to people that the Behringer UFX-1604 is now available from several suppliers (although some don't have current stock) for <£300.

I'm guessing it's an end-of-line clearance, but as the going rate was >£500 it represents real value.

So... bye-bye Zoom L-12, hello Behringer UFX-1604!

It does happen. I hear that they have cookies.... :D

That's an absurd price for such a piece of kit. And it doesn't even have a wall wart!

My Yammy MG16 has started to become a little crackly and is showing its age - was looking at the UFX a few months ago - even more tempting now - thanks for the head up Mike! :)

GAK say it's discontinued, so no point placing an order anywhere that doesn't have them in stock.

I agree, although other places are saying they'll be getting more stock. But I wouldn't order from anywhere that can't guarantee a delivery to them sometime. Phone calls methinks...

Some of those may be automatic website responses to having no stock, triggering standard re-order time frame displays.

Mike are you thinking about using the UFX for recording as an computer interface ?
(that's my plan)

I'm slightly concerned as I'm not finding any info about latency anywhere.

Nope! Standalone mode for me... less gear to take to location...

There's a guy done some recent demos on Youtube of recording to computer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lgQjGk4FkA Maybe you could pick his brains...

If you are prepared to pay a whopping 312quid for one, you can get them from Amazon (when I checked earlier). Although Gear4Music were offering them at 277, this was a 'pre-order' and had an expected delivery date of April ...

I'm not too impressed with G4M's 'expected' dates. I ordered a tenor acoustic guitar from them at the beginning of December which was expected beginning of January. Then in January it changed to June and i still haven't had any confirmation about my email subsequently cancelling my order.

They are great with stuff in stock, and get it out the door pronto, but if it's not...

I have had much better service from other providers when somethng's going to be even a week late asking if I'd like to cancel, not 6 months late but still sending me a stock email telling me it's been slightly delayed but could arrive anytime now.

That's from Music Store in Germany. Strangely enough on EBay the same company is offering them for less...

Well it arrived yesterday...

All in order and has very comprehensive facilities. Build quality seems good too. Not too sure about the FX, but I've only done the 'what does this one do?' stuff so far.

Faders are very 'light' in action - reminiscent of some of the smaller Soundcrafts in the '90s.

I've tried the record in standalone mode. Simple to use. Interestingly I got the same faults with my Lacie drive as I had when using it with the Cymatic. Just stops recording after an indeterminate period. But using an external hard-drive with its own PSU was absolutely fine - nearly two hours of recording successfully achieved and transferred. (But lesson learned from my November catastrophe... always have a spare, proven, external hard-drive with you!)

Wouldn't be surprised to find that they both use the same chip for that function. I think A&H also used it in some of their products.

... and on the down side... There... Is... No... Manual... :protest:

There's a 'quick start guide', but nothing, nowhere about the detail of the routing buttons etc. I'll work it out by trial and error, but it's not clever Mr B. Don't advertise a manual in the QSG if there isn't one available...

I like the gear a lot and it suits my needs, but I'm just getting all nostalgic for the detailed manuals that the likes of Soundcraft and Mackie used to produce...

A lot of Behringer stuff only now seems to have a QSG rather than a full manual. Maybe they don't expect it to last long enough to make it worth producing one? By the time you've read the QSG, it's time to send it back.

Cheeky!
Also a bit weird as they do proper manuals for their xenyx range.
