Decades SDX (£122$179), shown above, captures five drum kits, each stylistically representing roughly 10 years of Schmitt's career. There are jazz and big-band kits from the 1930s and 40s, rock and roll kits from the 50s, and 60s onwards, fusion and funk from the 70s and pop and AOR from the 70s onward, with 12 snares and nine kicks. Drums from the 1920s to late 1990s vintage are included, among others the personal snare of Toto's Jeff Porcaro and a complete kit owned by Steve Ferrone of the Average White Band and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and all are recorded with extra room mics, seven in all, so playback is possible in anything from stereo up to 9.1.

Meanwhile, Big Band EZX (£51.95$89), as its name suggests, focuses on the jazz and big band Decades kits, sampling period 1930s and 40s drums being struck with sticks and brushes and with snare wires on and off. Mix-ready big-band optimised kit presets are included, as is a selection of big band-inspired MIDI drum grooves.
