The President of mic manufacturers Royer Labs, Rick Perotta, has developed a replacement magnet assembly for owners of original EMT 140 plate reverbs whose magnets have weakened or gone missing over time. The new Royer 140‑NM assembly (above), which features six neodymium magnets arranged in a ‘turret’ fashion, acts as a replacement for — and, Perotta contends, an improvement over — the original design of the EMT plate’s magnet assembly. According to Perotta, the improved magnetic flux density leads to lower distortion and a more responsive voice coil. The 140-NM is available now from the Royer online shop, and in the UK via Royer Distributor SEA Vertrieb (see www.sea-vertrieb.de), priced at £850$799.
