Caveman Audio have released the AP1 Compact, bringing the sound of their AP1 Acoustic Preamp into a smaller and more pedalboard-friendly footprint. Designed for users of either piezo pickups or internal microphone setups, the AP1 Compact aims to provide a DI sound that better represents the instrument being played acoustically.
The Compact delivers the basic features of the full-sized AP1, and sports the same preamp design and custom transformer. A high impedance input is provided on a TS socket, with a transformer-balanced DI output present on an XLR. A output on a second TS socket allows the connection of a tuner, and a mute switch is available on the front panel to enable silent tuning. The device has been designed for low voltages, and will accept from 9 to 18VDC. The pedal measures 130 x 145 x 40/65 mm (width x depth x height including switch) and weighs 1kg.
The AP1 Compact is available now, priced at €499. We’ve had our hands on one here at Sound On Sound, with a full review planned for an upcoming issue of the magazine.
